Digi-Key Recognizes Employees for Completion of Electronics Technology Program

Thief River Falls, Minnesota – Electronic components distributor Digi-Key Corporation recently recognized four of its employees for completing Digi-Key’s Technical Scholarship program and receiving Electronics Technology degrees from Northland Community and Technical College (NCTC).

Digi-Key employees Bruce Holte, John Kieffer, Brandon Page and Mike Wilebski received Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees through NCTC’s Electronics Technology program in May. Since graduating, these four Digi-Key employees have also been promoted to technical support specialist positions within Digi-Key’s Technical Support Division.

Upon successful completion of the two-year AAS program, Digi-Key employee- graduates are eligible to join Digi-Key's technical support team. Eligibility requirements for this employee scholarship include having completed a three-month introductory period of employment at Digi-Key and the completion of a scholarship program application. Applicants are also required to write an essay about their interest in the program and take a basic analytic math skills test. After reviewing the applications, essays and test scores, a committee of human resources and technical staff employees interview the candidates. Additional considerations include work history and previous participation in other Digi-Key University educational programs.

Through involvement in the Digi-Key Technical Scholarship program, participating students maintain their employee status, current rates of pay and benefits while training for new careers. These scholarships offered by Digi-Key also help maintain NCTC’s Electronics Technology program and keep the program viable for future students.

“This program allows us to give our employees opportunities to pursue new careers while allowing us to tap into a new pool of candidates to fill positions at a time when qualified electronic technicians are in high demand,” said Rick Trontvet, Digi-Key’s vice president of human resources. “It’s a win-win situation for the company and its employees who are seeking to further their education and careers.”
