This week at DAC

This week, the 47th Design Automation Conference (DAC) is centerstage at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA, from June 13 to 18, Here’s what’s happening.

Various keynotes will be presented throughout the week in Ballroom ABC. On Tuesday, June 16, during the DAC opening session at 8:30 a.m., Dr. Douglas Grose, CEO of GLOBALFOUNDRIES, will present a talk titled “From Contract to Collaboration: Delivering a New Approach to Foundry.” On Wednesday, June 16, at 11:30 a.m., Dr. Bernard Meyerson, IBM Fellow and Vice President of Innovation at IBM, will provide his perspective on the EDA industry’s information technology (IT) needs in the talk, “Echoes of DAC’s Past: From Prediction to Realization, and Watts Next?”

On Thursday, June 17 at 11:30 a.m., the keynote message will be “Designing the Motorola Droid,” presented by Iqbal Arshad, Corporate Vice President of Innovation Products at Motorola Mobile Devices.

An interesting topic titled “Trends and What’s Hot at DAC” will be presented by Gary Smith, who is well known in the EDA industry, on Monday, June 14, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at Booth 694.

For the first time at DAC, Thursday is not an exhibit day. Instead, as part of DAC’s commitment to the design chain ecosystem, Thursday, June 17, will include three sessions focused on embedded processor-based systems-on-chip (SOCs) and their enablement.

Tuesday, June 15, is Management Day. From 10:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. there will be a brainstorming panel and presentations by management from leading-edge companies to highlight choices for flows, methodologies, and suppliers.

Highlights include:

• Presentations by AMCC, PMC-Sierra, Texas Instruments on “Decision-making for Complex ICs,” from 10:30 a.m. until noon.

• Presentations by managers from CSR, Intel, LSI Logic, and Qualcomm on “Trade-offs and Choices for Emerging SoCs,” from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.

• A panel on “Making Critical Decisions for Emerging SoC Development” from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m.. Chaired by Ron Wilson, the panel includes speakers from AMCC, CSR, Intel, LSI Logic, PMC-Sierra, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments.
