Said to offer 2x system performance, 2.5x capacity (to 2 Mgates), and 2x price/performance ratio, compared to the current versions, 7 series FPGAs, built on a 28-nm high-K metal gate process, also cut static power by 50%. The devices come in three types Virtex high performance; Kintex best price/performance; and Artix lowest power and cost. The Spartan series will no longer be offered.
The devices can operate at clock speeds of up to 600 MHz. The Virtex-7 family will include “XT” extended capability devices with as many as 72 transceivers supporting individual line rates of 13.1 Gbits/s. Future devices will feature 28-Gbit/s transceivers. The Kintex-7 family includes 10.3-Gbit/s or lower-cost 6.5-Gbit/s serial I/O, The Artix-7 family features 50% lower power and 35% lower cost, compared to Spartan-6. All series have PCIe and analog front-end blocks available. (Atrix 7, from less than $5 — tools available now, samples 1st qtr 2011.)
