The entire spectrum of automobile electronics on display at electronica 2010
Munich, Germany, July 22, 2010 — electronica 2010 will showcase automobile electronics, one of the fastest growing and most important markets in the automotive sector. After a 15% drop to $125 billion in 2009 from 2008, researchers anticipate the market will increase to $244 billion by $$2017 based on the latest available figures (Source: Strategy Analytics).
Around 20% of exhibitors at electronica 2010 will show products from the automotive sector and present solutions for future mobility. Two separate but concurrent activities – the “electronica automotive conference” and the “Automotive Forum” – will also focus automotive electronics, forming a 3-pillar concept for visitors to understand this market segment.
Requirements relating to future mobility
The anticipated automotive electronics market expansion is due, in part, to the industry developing new requirements and products for future mobility. The “Energy Efficient Driving 2014” initiative has set a goal to reduce vehicle fuel consumption by 10% in 2014. The companies that helped establish this goal will exhibit at electronics, and include ELMOS Semiconductor AG, Flextronics Automotive GmbH & CO.KG, Infineon Technologies AG and Robert Bosch GmbH.
Other Market leaders such as Epson Europe Electronics GmbH, Silicon Labs Inc., ON Semiconductor and Freescale will also present their solutions for automobile electronics at electronica 2010.
Variety of innovative approaches
Increasing vehicle “intelligence” is one of the most promising approaches to reducing fuel consumption. Using data from a navigation system, for example, will allow a computer to calculate optimized driving routes to reduce fuel consumption and costs.
Another possible way to increase efficiency is to simultaneously optimize the engine torque and the transmission shift timing using electronic powertrain controllers. The industry expects yearly growth to reach 14% in the next few years for components such as “powertrain ECUs” (Source: Strategy Analytics).
One of the biggest industry challenges is a small, efficient and quickly rechargeable battery for electric and hybrid automobiles. Leading international companies in this field, such as Axeon AG from Scotland and the French battery manufacturer Saft S.A., are expected to attend electronica 2010. Both companies are developing lithium-ion batteries for industrial applications. The batteries from Axeon are now already being used all over Europe in electric cars.
electronica 2010 – A 3-pillar concept for automobile electronics
The trade fair, the centerpiece of electronica, is the most important innovation platform for international automotive companies. Exhibitors presenting automotive solutions can be filtered using electronica's online database.
The “Automotive Forum” will examine the topics of e-mobility, safety and communication during different sessions. The forward-looking technologies will be described on all four days of the trade fair during short talks and podium discussions.
The “electronica automotive conference” will be held in the Munich International Congress Center on November 8 and 9, 2010. The first day featuring talks on markets and strategies will be aimed at top managers from automobile manufacturers, automotive component suppliers and electronics companies. The focal point for the target group on the second day will be technical management technologies. Detailed Program
About electronica
electronica is the world's leading trade fair for electronic components, systems and applications. It has been held every two years in Munich since 1964 and presents innovations from the entire range of products and services in the electronics industry. electronica is the most important international meeting-point for the electronics industry and features, in addition to the exhibition areas, a supporting program containing first-class conferences – electronica Automotive Conference and Wireless Congress – and discussions. electronica 2008 was attended by around 73,000 visitors and almost 2,800 exhibitors. The total amount of exhibition space was 1.72 million square feet.
hybridica, international trade fair for the development and manufacture of metal-plastic hybrid components, has been staged concurrently with electronica since 2008 and produces numerous synergy effects.
The number of exhibitors and visitors at electronica and hybridica is verified by an independent auditor on behalf of the Society for Voluntary Control of Fair and Exhibition Statistics (FKM) and can be downloaded from: www.electronica.de/en/fkm.
