Comm processors are fast, low power

The MPC8308, MPC8309, and MPC8306/8306S PowerQUICC II Pro communications processors yield up to 800-MIPS performance with 400/266/133-MHz single cores. They feature a 16/32-bit DDR2 memory controller with ECC support running at 266/333 MHz, a 16-bit/66-MHz local bus interface, single-lane PCI Express, USB 2.0 (high speed), an enhanced SDHC controller, dual Gigabit or fast Ethernet controllers, four CAN ports, and a 16-bit/66-MHz local-bus interface.

The processors target such applications as low-end line cards, femtocell base stations, wireless LAN access points, smart metering, smart-metering gateways, and programmable -ogic controllers. The MPC8306S takes 0.95 W typ, 1.28 W max, using a 1.0-V core VDD at 266 MHz, and comes in a 369-pin MAPBGA package. (From $7.36 MPC8306 to $9.94 MPC8308 — samples available now.)
