Renesas hosts October developer conference

The Renesas Developers Conference (DevCon) four-day technology event will start Monday October 11th in Anaheim, CA, and offer designers of embedded systems a great learning experience, with more than 120 talks on MCU software and hardware and power MOSFET applications. There will be hands-on labs and lectures, as well as the opportunity to connect with experts for interactive discussions.

Session tracks include automotive, computing architecture, motor control, connectivity, display technology, MCU human/machine interface, development tools, operating systems, security, and system design techniques.

Renesas, the world’s largest microcontroller supplier, says its unique “concierge service” approach will maximize attendees’ participation at the event. Each attendee will be assigned a technical staff member who will assist with personalizing the event by providing a customized program based on the attendee’s interests. The staff member can also set up one-on-one meetings with engineers and/or executives to review design activities, and be available anytime during the event for assistance.

Individually vibrated microbridge resonators can be used for separation of gases.

“Meet the Experts” sessions will provide discussions on a variety of topics, and several of the company’s embedded solutions will be on display in the DevCon exhibit hall, featuring more than 75 demonstrations. The RX 32-bit MCU family, which blends the best traits of RISC and CISC architectures and adds DSP and floating-point math capability, will be shown, as will the H8/300L super-low-power flash/ROM 8-bit, the R8C/LA8A 20-MHz 16-bit processors, and the R8C/M11A and R8C/M12A low-power 14- or 20-pin TSSOP-packaged 8/16-bit flash MCUs, which support 1.8-V flash programming.

More than 40 Renesas Alliance Partners will participate, including Ariane, AxelSys, BNS, Brazen Tek, FDI, Lauterbach, Micron, MPC Data, Paragon Innovations, and Segger. A few exhibit highlights include the following:

• Micriµm (http://micrium.com) software makes it easy to integrate a good GUI into embedded designs and supports the RX architecture. The company is unveiling a book at DevCon that assists engineers in implementing an RTOS for the new RX architecture. Written by Jean Labrosse, CEO of Micriµm, µC/OS-III: The Real Time Kernel has easy-to-follow examples. Each person attending DevCon will receive a copy of the book.

• Crank Software (www.cranksoftware.com) will be showing off its Storyboard Suite, which enables designers to quickly develop rich, animated user interfaces and deploy them across many of Renesas Electronics’ MCUs.

• Total Phase (www.totalphase.com) will be exhibiting its line of leading-edge and affordable USB protocol analyzers, including the new Beagle USB 5000 SuperSpeed Protocol Analyzer for USB 3.0.
