The RL78 series of 8-bit microcontrollers achieve operating current of only 70 μA/MHz and standby current of 0.7 µA with the RTC and low-voltage detection functions active. The chips deliver 41 DMIPS operating at 32 MHz and feature an on-chip 32 MHz ±1% oscillator and 1.6 to 5.5-V operation.
The ICs have 2 to 512 Kbytes of program space, an 8- or 10-bit A/D converter, and package options ranging from 20 to 128 pins. The MCUs operate from 1.6 to 5.5 V and have a number of built-in mechanisms that can be used to comply with safety regulations required for electrical appliances, such as IEC60730.
