28-nm FPGAs add fast I/O, cut dynamic power

The Cyclone V and Arria V 28-nm FPGA families are said to provide a 50% dynamic power reduction, compared to previous versions. The Arria chips have up to 495k logic elements, while the Cyclone devises have up to 300k.

Arria V devices provide up to ten 10G transceivers using just 135 mW and up to twenty-four 6G transceivers that take only 90 mW per channel. Cyclone V chips have up to twelve 3G or 5G transceivers. The ICs have up to two PCIe hard blocks, four DDR3 hard memory controllers, and 23.8 Mbits of block memory, plus as many as 1,139 variable precision DSP blocks. Cyclone comes in E, GX, and GT versions; Arria in GX and GT. (Contact company for pricing and availability.)
