Cypress Semiconductor Corp. announced a new feature for its TrueTouch touchscreen controllers this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. “Charger Armor” allows touchscreens on mobile devices to operate normally while connected to noisy chargers.
This is vital in places where chargers may experience jittery motions or be hooked into a “bad power grid,” which disrupts the touchscreen’s functionality, said Marketing Director Trevor Davis.
“It’s not sexy, but it’s important. It’s something that has to be managed well” he added. “It keeps good-looking phones looking good. And, OEMs don’t want to get a call from someone saying that their phones don’t look good.”
Cypress expects customers to introduce systems with this feature in the first half of this year.
At the booth, Cypress was also giving demos of its Resistive Stylus Replacement (RSR) support for capacitive touchscreens, features unveiled last month.
