Audio processor handles MEMS-enhanced inputs

The STA321MP audio-processing chip connects directly to the latest miniature microphones and provides a new way of boosting performance from small, low-cost speakers. The IC features an interface for a MEMS digital microphone or a standard microphone and it has a second MEMS input for connection to a tiny sensor for detecting speaker movements — allowing designers to apply active-sound shaping techniques.

The IC has an efficient FFX Class D modulator, 100-dB dynamic range, two I2 S stereo channels, a 16-bit stereo A/D converter with PGA, and an eight-channel input sample rate converter (8 to 192 kHz). The 7 x 7 x 1-mm QFN packaged four-channel audio processor has a CMOS bridge, up to 0.5-W/channel output, a dynamic range compressor, play and record simultaneous operation, pre- and post-mix stages, –105 to 36-dB digital gain/attenuation, up to 13 28-bit programmable biquads (EQ) per channel, ternary/binary/phase shift modulation, and PWM output.
