Intelligent sensor suits car battery monitoring

The MM912J637 intelligent battery sensor (IBS) accurately measures the voltage, current and temperature of lead-acid batteries and calculates the battery state, all while operating in harsh automotive conditions. The device integrates a S12 microcontroller and a SMARTMOS analog control integrated circuit in a single-package solution. It meets the highest automotive standards for electrostatic discharge, electromagnetic compatibility, and zero-defect quality levels.

The IBS communicates using a local interconnect network (LIN) and includes a two-channel 16-bit ADC for simultaneous measurement of battery voltage (full measurement range 3.5 to 28 V with an accuracy of 0.15% for a 5.18-V range) and current (measurement range up to ±2,000 A with an accuracy of 5 mA and a resolution of 1 mA) and an independent 16-bit ADC for temperature measurement [accuracy: ±2K (–20° to 60°C) and ±3K (–40 to 125°C)].

Additional features include a normal and two low-power modes, programmable current threshold detection during low-power mode, programmable wake-up timer, triggered wake-up from LIN, and internal oscillator with 1% accuracy. It is fully AEC-Q100 automotive qualified for operation from –40° to 125°C and comes in a small-form-factor 7 x 7-mm QFN package with wettable flanks technology, enabling optical inspection during assembly.
