Complex SoC targets auto infotainment

The R-Car M1 series SoC is a high integration automotive infotainment chip for navigation, graphics; HDD; GPS; 24-bit audio processing; FM decoding; CAN, USB, and Ethernet interface; and video image processing. The M1S version has a SH-4A processor core, and the M1A has the SH-4A and an Cotrex A9 core. Both cores run at 800 MHz.

The chip’s integration of circuitry for intelligent multimedia processing saves about 92% of power for full 1,920 x 1,080-pixel HD 30 F/s video decoding relative to executing the same function in software on previous products. The R-Cars dedicated power supply IC with adaptive voltage scaling reduces consumption by approximately 20% from existing products.
