5-Gbit/s re-drivers boost signal integrity

The PI2EQX5904 and 5964 re-driver ICs offer enhanced signal integrity capabilities for multiprotocol, including PCIe, at 5 Gbits/s. The chips support four lanes (eight differential channels) with variable input/output termination and run from a single 1.2-V supply.

The ICs come in an LBGA package (5904) with programmable settings of transmit/receive equalization and output swing by both external pin strapping and bus programming, or a smaller TQFN package (5964) with I2 C/SM bus programming only. Both ICs have a loopback mode for testing and also allow for internal lane switching. They operate at –40° to 85°C. ($6.45 to $6.95 ea/5,000 — samples available now.)
