Ethernet switch speeds cell network backhaul
The BCM5644 Ethernet multilayer switch and traffic manager targets mobile networks base-station backhaul with 1,000 times bandwidth improvement and a much higher integration level. The IC supports both IEEE 1588v2 and IEEE 802.1as packet-based clock synchronization.
The device combines a feature-rich packet-processing engine, an integrated hierarchical traffic manager, and a non-blocking-switch fabric into a single 40-nm CMOS device. It supports Energy Efficient Ethernet and has a 2-Mbyte packet buffer with a DDR3 off-chip expansion option. The chip also supports the latest Carrier Ethernet transport protocols: MPLS/VPLS, MPLS-TP, PBB, PBB-TE, QiQ. (Contact company for price — sampling now.)
