The FM31T378 processor companion IC features 256 Kbits of nonvolatile FRAM memory and a real-time clock with a temperature compensation crystal oscillator. The device also has a CPU supervisor function, an I2 C port, programmable undervoltage reset, two battery-backed event counters with a tamper interrupt output, a 32.768-kHz clock output, a lockable 64-bit serial number, and a general-purpose comparator.
The IC operates from 2.7 to 5.5 V and comes in a 14-pin SOIC package. The chip’s clock is stable to ±5 ppm over –40° to 85°C and provides seconds through centuries in BCD format with an accuracy of ±2½ min/year. (From $3.89 ea/25,000 — available now.)
