The MAX2992 powerline communication (PLC) baseband modem delivers half-duplex, asynchronous data communication over ac power lines at speeds up to 300 kbits/s. The chip pairs with the MAX2991 AFE for a solution that complies with the emerging IEEE(R) P1901.2 standard for OFDM-based communication over power lines. The chipset is tagged G3-PLC.
The MAX2992 SoC handles the PHY and MAC layers using a 32-bit MAXQ30 microcontroller core and provides for AES-128 encryption/decryption. The IC uses OFDM techniques with DBPSK, DQPSK, D8PSK modulation and forward error correction for robust data communication and supports the IPv6 Internet protocol. The LQFP64-packaged IC operates at –40° to 85° or 105°C. ($7 ea/1,000 — samples available now.)
