300-mA buck-boost regulators reduce design footprint

The 3.3-V SC630A and 5-V SC632A are presented as the world’s smallest 300-mA and 275-mA buck-boost regulators, respectively. The 2 x 2 x 0.6-mm packaged devices feature 2.95 to 5.5-VIN and are used with 2.2-µF capacitors, making them smaller than conventional inductor-based buck-boost regulators. This combination of package and capacitor sizes results in an overall design footprint as small as 10 mm2 .

The buck-boost regulators use a patented low-noise charge pump technology to provide low-EMI solutions compared to inductive boost regulators and are optimized for use in a wide range of applications, including tablets, modems, set top boxes, smart phones, digital cameras, portable media players, multi-LED backlit LCDs, USB On-the-Go, and compact flash/CF+ products. Both devices offer a shutdown current of 0.1 µA typ and full protection features, including internal soft-start to minimize inrush current, as well as overcurrent, short-circuit, and overtemperature protection.
