Smallest PowerSoC targets solid-state drives

The EN5339 power SoC integrates the industry’s smallest point-of-load dc/dc converters, has 96% efficiency and targets solid-state drives (SSDs) and industrial embedded applications. The 3-A power device integrates the controller, power MOSFETs, compensation network, and inductor in a 55-mm2 solution area with a 1.1-mm profile and typically requires only three to six external components.

The dc/dc converters suit the variety of SSD form factors including SATA, PCIe, and mSATA. The IC has a 20%-smaller footprint and 40% lower profile compared to the company’s other dc/dc converters and is 75% smaller than competitive products. The device is industrial graded, and does not require load derating even at 85°C ambient temperature. The 6-mV typical ripple and low EMI help eliminate the need for external noise filters, while its thermal performance negates the need for heatsinks. ($1.88 ea/1,0000 — available December.)
