The lensed SFH 4258S and 4259S IR Power Topled infrared LEDs have 80% higher optical output (80 mW from an operating current of 70 mA) than standard versions, with the same surface area and drive current. The 4258S has a beam angle of ±15°; the SFH 4259S, ±25°.
Useful for camera-based gaming and IR illumination in security systems, the 850-nm devices use Nanostack technology, which grows two stacked p-n junctions on a thin-film chip to increase performance. The LEDs have the same footprint as the standard versions and can be used as a drop-in replacement. Note that, because of the series circuit, voltage is higher by a factor of approximately 2.
