LeCroy: Oscilloscope system rises above the pack, to 45 GHz
Among top oscilloscopes manufacturers, there has rarely been a time when one has been ahead of its competition for long. But in the past year, the introduction of a new oscilloscope by LeCroy has left others far behind. Not only does the LabMaster 9 Zi-A provide a bandwidth 45 GHz — that is about 50% greater than what its competition can offer, but it also provides the highest sample rate of 120 Gsamples/s, and can be configured with as many as 20 full-performance channels. This configurability seriously lowers the cost of multichannel oscillography, while earning the instrument the right to truly be called a modular oscilloscope system.
The 9 Zi-A accomplishes all this with a system architecture that separates the oscilloscope signal acquisition function from the display, control, and processing functions. Master acquisition modules contain the display and control, as well as a single acquisition module, while servant acquisition modules contain add-on acquisition systems. ChannelSync technology enables the master and servants to synchronize perfectly, and a server-class CPU is in a third module provides processing power for the immense amounts of data the system can collect.
The scope’s higher bandwidth is not merely an engineering tour de force; it is needed by engineers developing and installing systems with the high data rates demanded by cloud computing and mobile communication. These designers really need affordable multichannel scopes with the highest bandwidths, and they won’t find a comparable instrument anyplace else.
