A family of two-piece battery connectors now includes a compact version. The new four-blade model is designed for both horizontal and vertical blade insertion. The compact size reduces the pitch from 3 to 2.5 mm. For a constant connection, the receptacle side features dual-beam contact in both insertion directions. Two tabs are fitted on the receptacle to provide a secure grip around the blade upon insertion. Biaxial torsion and a floating function absorb the battery gap and reduce the risk of intermittent power outages, even if the device is dropped.
The connector is intended for devices where uninterrupted power is critical, including but not limited to cellphones, mobile devices, GPS units, tablet PCs, and any type of handheld portable unit operated in a harsh environment. Specifications include current handling up to 2 A per blade, 30-mΩ max (initial) contact resistance, operating temperature range of –40° to 85°C, voltage of 12 Vac/dc, and operational durability of 2,000 cycles. The plug side is 2.2 (H) x 2.6 (W) x 7 mm (L) and the receptacle side is 3 (H) x 2.5 (W) x 8.8 mm (L). Each blade consists of four contacts with a 2.5-mm pitch.
