OVP chip targets apps with multiple power sources

The MAX14606/MAX14607 are overvoltage protectors that handle up to 3-A continuous current mobile high-power electronics. They use reverse bias blocking to protect a portable device from damage caused by multiple power sources supplied simultaneously. The devices protect the internal components of portable electronics such as tablets, smartphones, and portable media players.

The over voltage protection device feature two integrated back-to-back FETs to prevent the voltage applied at the intended output from feeding back into the input. Without this reverse bias blocking, users are forced to use multiple discrete, external components to protect the end equipment. The devices use 54-mΩ (typical) on-resistance, integrated FETs that protect low-voltage systems against voltage faults up to +36 V. Thy are available in a 1.3 x 1.3-mm WLP package and have an operating temperature range from –40°C to +85°C. ($0.91 ea/1,000 – available now.)
