14-bit magnetic encoder achieves accurate angle measurements

The 14-bit AS5048 magnetic encoder achieves accurate, reliable angle measurements in microcontroller-based applications. The part provides a PWM output and either an SPI or I2 C interface. The maximum system accuracy is 0.05° assuming linearization and averaing is done by the external microcontroller.

The encoder is also highly tolerant of misalignment between the sensor IC and its paired magnet and of variations in the air gap, as well as of variations in temperature from –40° to 150°C. Its 14-bit measurement engine provides for resolution down to 0.0219°. Housed in a 14-pin TSSOP package, the AS5048 operates from either a 3.3- or 5-V supply.
