Fiber-optic modules handle 120 Gbits/s

The AFBR-81uVxyZ and AFBR-82uVxyZ stand-alone MiniPOD optical transmit and receive modules each have twelve unidirectional channels (lanes) that each transfer data at 10.3125 Gbits/s using 64b/66b encoding – for an aggregate data rate of 120 Gbits/s per module. The modules take only 25% of the power per 10 G lane needed by SFP+ modules – about 3 W per transmit/receive pair.

The modules electrical interface uses a 9 x 9 MEG-Array connector with 1.27 mm pitch. Package options support round multi-lane or flat ribbon fiber-optic cable assemblies. The 21.95 mm X 18.62 mm footprint modules use a VCSEL laser array and are compliant to IEEE 802.3ba and 12xQDR Infiniband. An evaluation board is available. (Module pair, $649 in 100 unit sample qty – samples available now.)
