64-bit quad-core MCUs target communications

The QorIQ AMP T1042 and T2080 64-bit quad-core microcontrollers feature 2x performance per watt compared to previous generation devices. The T1042 has Data Path Acceleration Architecture (DPAA) for 13 Gbit/s aggregate parse/classify/distribute, sophisticated pattern matching/security capabilities, 5 Gbit/s security, and PCI Express, DDR3, Ethernet, and USB interfaces. It takes only 4 W maximum.

The T2080 yields 10 Gbit/s SEC security using 1.8 GHz e6500 cores and has SRIO, PCIe, SATA 2.0, DDR3, and USB interfaces. It comes with Secure Boot, advanced virtualization for safe partitioning between control and data planes, and an AltiVec engine for DSP-like calculations. (Prices not given – available Q1 2013.)
