The RL78/D1A group of 16-bit microcontrollers target affordable two- and four-wheeled vehicles, including instrument cluster systems. The 32 MHz devices have 24 to 256 Kbytes of flash, plus an 8 Kbye data flash and 6 to 16 kbytes of RAM.
Versions of the MCU have an LCD controller for 27 to 53 segments, one to four stepper motor controllers, and an optional CAN port. Operating temperatures are −40 to 85 or −40 to 105C. They run on 5 V, come in 48, 64, 80, and 100 pin QFP packages, and also have an A/D converter, an RTC, serial interfaces, and a sound generator. (From $5 ea/sample quantity – samples available now.)
