Cap-coupled isolator mimics opto input

The Si8710, Si8711, Si8712 CMOS-based isolators use capacitive isolation technology, but emulate a photo diode input for pin compatability with opto-isolators. The low-cost chips provide more than ten times MTTF rate of optocouplers with isolation ratings up to 5 kV and full compliance with IEC 60747-5-2, including 10 kV surge protection.

The single channel devices offer common-mode transient immunity of >50 kV/μs typical. Input on current is 15 ma max, 3 ma min and they operate at -40 to 125C. Maximium data rate is 15 Mbits/s. The three versions have open collector outputs, with enable, and with 20 K pull up. An eval kit is available for $29. ($0.43 ea/10,000 – available now.)
