Webinar for electric and hybrid vehicles

The electric and hybrid vehicles online webinar will introduce the audience to the latest engineering simulation technology impacting the development of Electric and Hybrid vehicles. Presenters will also discuss its impact on electric aircraft, satellite technology and other alternative forms of transportation. The applications covered are crucial to next generation powertrains and the opportunity to improve design through the use of sophisticated simulation methods is compelling. will cover three main topics highlighting the versatility of today’s engineering simulation solutions:

• Electric machines analysis
• Battery cell, module and pack analysis
• Power electronics

This session will also highlight the way a large complex engineering organization can benefit from embracing a simulation architecture across both design and analysis teams. Find more information at http://www2.cd-adapco.com/e/14592/Yk4IGU/2q2lr/89158452

Integrated battery-ultracapacitor energy solutions

Exide Technologies and Maxwell Technologies announced the formation of a strategic alliance. The two companies will work together in the development and marketing of advanced, integrated, battery-ultracapacitor energy storage solutions to be used in a wide array of transportation and industrial applications.

Exide is the only battery company to provide product offerings across a range of applications in both the transportation and industrial markets. With its AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology that allows for deep cycling combined with high charge acceptance, Exide supports Start-Stop vehicles, energy recuperation, intelligent charging and other advanced power train features to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. Find more information at www.exide.com.

Maxwell’s ultracapacitor products store energy in an electric field, which is unlike batteries that produce and store energy by means of a chemical reaction, This electrostatic energy storage mechanism enables ultracapacitors to charge and discharge in as little as fractions of a second, perform normally over a broad temperature range (–40 to +65C), and operate reliably for one million or more charge/discharge cycles. Maxwell offers ultracapacitor cells ranging in capacitance from one to 3,000 F and multi-cell modules ranging from 16 to 125 V. For more information, visit www.maxwell.com.

Saft wins five-year contract for LiSO2 batteries

Saft has been awarded a major five year contract by the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to supply the U.S Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps with BA 5590 lithium sulfur dioxide (Li-SO2 ) batteries. This contract was awarded to Saft for 100% of the U.S. military needs for this type of battery. The contract with DLA is an indefinite quantity contract for a five-year period with a maximum amount of up to $98 million. Orders under the contract are demand-based, with the first orders expected in mid-2013. For more information, visit Saft at www.saftbatteries.com.
