Taiyo Yuden: Inductors handle high current in small packages

The MAMK2520 and MDMK2020 MCOIL power inductors are smaller and thinner than any available similar component. The 2.5 x 2.0-mm MAMK2520 and 2-mm-square MDMK2020 use a new type of metallic core and can handle higher current levels than other power inductors of their size.

For example, the MAMK2520T2R2M, with 2.2 μH and a saturation current of 2,000 mA minimum and 2,300 mA typical, has two times higher saturation current than similar parts in its 25 x 20-mm size. The inductors are only 1.2 mm thick. The dc resistance for this part is 90 mΩ typical and 117 mΩ maximum, and it is suitable for dc/dc converter operation at 2 MHz. Prices run about $0.15 each per 10,000 for the 2.2-µH example.
