Agilent Technologies: Bringing meters, Android, and Bluetooth together

Enabling remote monitoring and data logging over distances to 10 m, the $48 U1177A wireless connectivity solution links any of 11 handheld digital multimeters to Android smartphones and tablets for the first time. PCs with Bluetooth are also supported.

The compact U1177A IR-to-Bluetooth wireless adapter plugs into the back of a DMM, letting it connect to an Android mobile device running either or both of two free Android apps: one for basic meter control and reading, the other for datalogging. The meter app enables real-time interaction with DMMs, while the logger app simplifies logging and remote monitoring. There’s also a free datalogging app for PCs, and up to three DMM/module pairs can be supported by one Android device or PC. Android apps are available through the Android Market; Android apps, as well as PC software, can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website too.
