The TPS65090 power management front-end chip increases battery run-time in ARM Cortex A15-based designs. The part integrates all power management functions and maximizes power efficiency to extend battery run-time in tablets and other portable electronics by 20% and cuts board space by 60% compared to a discrete approach.
The device integrates a 4-A switching PowerPath charger — further cutting charging time in half —, three 5-A dc/dc step-down converters, seven load switches which allow independent control of each major subsystem, two always-on LDOs, and a 10-channel A/D converter for easy monitoring of power consumption. In addition it provides up to 95% efficiency across 8- to 12-V output voltages for two to three cells series. Specifically it integrates 15 functions into one front-end. Housing is in multi-row QFN packaging. ($4.95 ea/1,000 — available now)
