Infographic from Xcel Energy provides insight into how energy can be stretched

Windsource, one of the nation’s largest voluntary renewable energy programs, and a company that falls under massive utility provider Xcel Energy, had a banner year in 2012 in the state of Minnesota — it actually sold more than one billion kilowatt-hours of wind energy to state residents and businesses.

To celebrate the achievement, the company put together the entertaining infographic below, which details everything that one billion kWh of clean, renewable energy can do, including how many tater tot hot dishes can be cooked and how many times every Minnesotan can watch the movie “Grumpy Old Men” using this power.

One billion kWh of energy

The one billion hours is a sizeable increase over years past. In 2011, Windsource sold 855,830,973 hours, and in 2010 the number was 687,389,643 hours.

At present, the company has 20 wind farms throughout the state, representing 69 turbines and nearly 90 megawatts of capacity. Over 57,000 homes and 1,200 businesses have signed up to have their power provided by Windsource.
