CSEP interoperability plugfest ; TI is ready to support SEP2.0 products

Delivering on the promise of interoperability for Smart Energy Profile 2.0

The Consortium for Smart Energy Profile 2 Interoperability (CSEP) announced its official incorporation with the HomePlug Alliance, Wi-Fi Alliance and ZigBee Alliance as founding members, and that it has completed its first interoperability plugfest. This is great news for the Smart Grid market as it is essential for wired and wireless SEP 2 devices including thermostats, electric metering, home gateways and more to work together seamlessly  for consumers to adopt SEP 2.

We are pleased to support the CSEP plugfests and are excited for the opportunities that SEP 2 brings to the Smart Grid market. As one of the few technology companies that can support the Smart Energy 2.0 application profile on multiple PHY and MAC platforms, TI is in a unique position to further fuel interoperability between these connectivity standards.

“As a promoter member of the ZigBee Alliance, we are pleased to see that Texas Instruments has been supporting  the introduction of SEP 2 by their active participation in the SEP 2 working groups,” said Bob Heile, Chair of the ZigBee Alliance. “The industry has made an important step with the first CSEP plugfest to deliver on the promise of interoperability between connectivity standards and get SEP 2 products in the hands of consumers.”

At TI, we are excited about SEP 2 and the opportunities that lie ahead to bring smart energy devices to more  consumers and ultimately bring energy efficiency and control to a new level. Because the SEP 2 profile is architected to interface with multiple PHYs, it is possible that SEP 2 products can run across ZigBee, Wi-Fi or power line networks including TI’s ZigBee processors and WiLink Wi-Fi solutions. As the SEP 2 market expands this will enable customers to use ZigBee or Wi-Fi to connect to existing and new infrastructure, or use Wi-Fi as a bridge for ZigBee to connect to the Internet.
