The XBee-footprint-compatible 20-lead RN41XVC and RN42XVP Bluetooth socket modules and the 36-pin MRF24WG0MA and MRF24WG0MB Wi-Fi modules for 2.4-GHz IEEE 802.11b/g make for easy system integration. They include a feature-rich and free source-code TCP/IP stack.
The modules enable an easy way to migrate 802.15.4 ZigBee designs to either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The 802.11b/g 21 x 31-mm 36-pin surface-mount Wi-Fi module includes a PCB antenna and costs $18.75 ea/1,000. The Bluetooth modules offer plug-in compatibility using 2 x 10 (2-mm) socket and cost $14.56 ea/1,000. A PIC32 Bluetooth Audio Development Kit is also available.
