Flash based FPGAs are low cost, low power

The flash-based IGLOO2 FPGA family features 5 Gig SERDES transceivers, up to 240 math blocks, 64 Kbytes of SRAM and up to 512 KB non-volatile memory. Flash based FPGAs do not need external program loading and are therefore more secure. They also have high radiation tolerance.

The FPGA family has seven versions with 6 to 146 K logic elements and from 0 to 16 SERDES lanes. The chips start at less than $7.00 for high volume. The mid-range M2Gl050 version has 56,340 LEs, 72 math blocks, 1,826 Kbits of RAM, two PCIe endpoints, and eight 5 Gbits/s SERDES lanes. Quiescent current is 7.5 mA; 0.38 mA in freeze mode.
