Molex Solutions Contribute to Indy 500 Winner Tony Kanaan and KV Racing Technology’s Incredible Performance

KV Racing Technology Technical Director Eric Cowdin, the head Race Engineer for Kanaan's #11 IndyCar, and his engineers rely on components from Molex to perform critical diagnostics on the team's racecars. Molex connectors are featured prominently in a test box custom built by KV Racing data engineer Josh Fults and engineering assistant Matt Cummings to allow for faster, more efficient evaluation of the functionality of sensors on the cars driven by Kanaan and his KV Racing teammate, Simona De Silvestro. The engineers can also use this custom test box to calibrate the sensors.

“In the past if we wanted to test if the sensor is good, we'd have to power up the race car, plug our laptop into the racecar, and then in our data system we'd be able see the voltage,” Fults explained. “But we've made this test box with all Mouser products and Molex connectors. We've made it so we can take a sensor, plug it into this test box, turn it on, and see if the sensor's output is a good voltage.”

The Mouser racing program provides a high-tech platform to showcase the newest technologies and connect with industry's leading automotive electronic design engineers and buyers. Molex joined as an official partner in Mouser's IndyCar program last year. Mouser and Molex's support of the KV Racing Technology team has proved to be a winning partnership. Kanaan captured his first-ever Indianapolis 500 victory in May and continued his run of success with a third-place finish at the Firestone 550 at Texas Motor Speedway in June. The upcoming schedule for the KV Racing Technology team is highlighted by the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma on Aug. 25.

“Mouser is excited to not only support KV Racing Technology but to be the preferred source for meeting the racing team's needs for connectors and other components,” says Krystal Jackson, Mouser's Vice President of Interconnect. “Molex is one of the largest and most innovative manufacturers of interconnect products, so it comes as no surprise that racing engineers trust and depend on Molex parts.”
