Low-cost function/arb generators deliver up to 50 MHz at 14 bits

The 4050 series of dual-channel function/arbitrary waveform generators consists of four models that can output sine, square, triangle, and pulse waveforms, as well as arbitrary functions, with modulation at frequencies up to 5, 10, 20, or 50 MHz. List prices range from $499 to $1050, but the generators can be had at a 10% discount until November 30.

All instruments have a 14-bit, 125 Msample/s, 16 kpoint arbitrary waveform generator, and provide 48 built-in arbitrary waveforms and the ability to create and load up to ten custom, 16-kpoint waveforms using the included waveform-editing software and the standard USB interface on the rear. Built-in modulation schemes include AM/FM, DSB-AM, ASK/FSK, PM, and PWM. Other standard features include linear and logarithmic sweep function, built-in counter, sync output, trigger I/O terminal, 10-MHz external-reference-clock input, and front-panel USB host port to save and recall settings and waveforms. All models are dual-channel, with the main channel's output voltage variable from 0 to 10 Vpp into 50 Ω and the secondary output from 0 to 3 Vpp into 50 Ω. Each instrument has a 3.5-in. color LCD display, rotary control knob, and numeric keypad with dedicated waveform keys and output buttons. An optional USB-to-GPIB adapter is available.
