The STM32 F205 microcontroller from STMicroelctronics is the processor controlling the innovative Pebble Smartwatch for iPhone and Android. The Pebble connects to the smartphones using Bluetooth and alerts users via a silent vibration when there is an incoming call, email, or text message.
Pebble apps bring it to life. Cyclists can use Pebble as a bike computer, accessing the GPS on your smartphone to display speed, distance, and pace data. Runners get a similar set of data displayed on their wrist.
The excellent real-time performance and power efficiency of the Cortex M3 based STM32 F205 MCU gives Pebble users a balance of functionality and battery life as well as full customizability – complete with beautiful downloadable watch faces and useful Internet-connected apps. Pebble also uses ST's LIS3DH MEMS digital output motion sensor.
At 120 MHz, the STM32F205 MCU delivers 150 DMIPS/398 CoreMark performance executing from flash, with 0-wait states. Dynamic power scaling enables current consumption while executing from flash to be as low as 175 µA/MHz at 120 MHz. The processor has USB, I2S, CAN, SDIO, crypto acceleration, and fast 12-bit A/D and D/A converters.
