Natel Engineering Acquires EPIC Technologies

Acquisition elevates the electronics manufacturing company to higher levels of capability and competitiveness

CHATSWORTH, CA – Oct. 11, 2013 – Natel Engineering Co., Inc.’s acquisition of EPIC Technologies, LLC, powers Natel upward toward higher levels of capabilities and competitiveness among U.S. electronics manufacturers.
Bolstered by EPIC’s complementary strengths, Natel is now one of the country’s most capable high-reliability electronics manufacturing companies, focused on the unrelenting pursuit of quality and customer satisfaction. Since Natel’s founding by Sudesh Arora in 1975, it has an impressive history of growth and success. By acquiring EPIC, with its own distinctive list of achievements, Natel integrates new capabilities, both vertically and horizontally, an experienced and insightful leadership team, and the best-trained people working on the production floor, making it unmatched in North America.
“Our suite of products and services, now unrivaled among our tier two EMS peers, are on par with even the largest EMS companies at home and abroad,” says EPIC CEO Bhawnesh Mathur.
Over the years Natel has made several strategic acquisitions to fuel its rise to prominence. Jonathan Davis, Natel’s Vice President of Corporate Development, believes that this latest move goes beyond being simply accretive. “This is a game-changer. The addition of EPIC has provided an energizing force that has made an immensely positive impact on Natel and our customers.
According to Arora, “This acquisition expands our product solutions to include higher-level system integration capabilities that give us opportunities to reduce costs for our customers because of our larger footprint. It gives us a new vision of the future. We are able to provide a superior level of quality and services to our customers with our zero-tolerance for failure. We want to show customers how we can meet all their electronic manufacturing needs within one company.”
Natel and EPIC have a distinguished record of producing electronics systems for leading customers in defense, communications and medical applications.
Among Natel achievements are the following:
Defense – Electronics for nine U.S. missile systems including Patriot and Stinger along with radar systems for the F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22 and F-35 aircraft
Space – NASA’s Mars Rover
Digital Media – Servers and routers support live worldwide broadcasts of the World Cup, Super Bowl and Olympics through end-users that include CNN, ESPN and China Television
Medical – Control modules for CT and MRI machines, patient-wearable arrhythmia monitors as well as a number of implantable devices
Energy – Smart utility meters and industrial valve controls for the oil and gas industry
According to Todd Baggett, EPIC Vice President of Strategic Account Management, “Through the sharing of best practices, EPIC will be able to leverage Natel’s long, successful history in high-quality, high-reliability defense systems for customers in other market segments. We’re excited because Natel offers many capabilities that can be utilized by current EPIC customers.”
While they differ in certain aspects of their business, Natel and EPIC share many common strengths. Both have invested in their own internal processes – at four to six times industry averages – to ensure quality and highest reliability, as well as a commitment to the elimination of waste. “The combination of Natel and EPIC offer OEM’s a suite of services that is unparalleled in the mid-tier EMS market. This reduces time to market and total program cost for OEM customers” says Baggett.
“We believe the market is at the start of a renaissance of domestic manufacturing because of several factors – emergence of additive manufacturing, rise in labor costs in China, rampant IP infringement overseas and advancing technologies. Natel, along with the resources EPIC brings to the company, is now poised to take advantage of these opportunities,” says Jim Angeloni, Natel’s Chief Operating Officer.
“We don’t wait for marketplace conditions to force us to change. I’ve challenged my team to lead through innovation because we understand that is the competitive advantage that we offer our customers,” says Arora.  “While equipment and advanced technologies are important, we differentiate ourselves through constant dedication to improving processes that reduce errors and eliminate waste. With this acquisition, we’re confident that we can go head to head with any electronic manufacturing company in the world.”
