Although a big task, getting married isn’t exactly an engineering project, but engineers and tech geeks alike can make their weddings suit their style with these tech-inspired wedding ideas.
1. Send out geeky invitations that prompt your guests to download software.
Like Jai and Prerita did:

2. Serve a video game/projector five-tiered wedding cake.

An entertainment company called PoshDJs turned a wedding cake into a live-action video game using a projector. When the lights were turned off, the cake transformed into a 3D projection of classic video games such as Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
3. Turn a bomb-disposing robot into a ring bearer.

Last year, mechanical engineer Laura Cressman was about to get married and who do you think she asked to be the ring bearer at her ceremony? A bomb-disposing robot, of course. Cressman actually designed the robotic arm on an unmanned ground vehicle named Dragon Runner and asked him to do the honors. As the robot came down the aisle, they even played the song “Mr. Roboto” by Styx.
4. Have another robot perform your marriage ceremony (or be the reader, usher, or dancer).

Oscar the WeddingBot lives in Minnesota, but creator Jon Schmig will take him to weddings in other areas if you ask him to. The 2-foot robot is powered by a 12-V rechargeable NiMH battery pack and its brain is composed of an Arduino Micro microcontroller. Schmig can control the WeddingBot from his Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone via Bluetooth.
Oscar has even been programmed with some traditional phrases, so he can perform the readings at your wedding, too.
5. Use iPhone and iPad apps instead of a photographer

If you’re a traditional technology-age fiancée, you may use an app to keep things organized, but if you’re really into technology, you might consider trading in your photographers for apps on your iPhone or iPad.
The “Wedding Booth” app for the iPad costs $9.99 and combines guests’ photos and messages into one place. You can also have your guests use a specific hashtag on Instagram so you can see all of the photos they took after the wedding.
One other option for photography is a video guest book. The “Thrilled For You” app costs $4.99 and allows your guests to leave personal messages for you.
6. Register for techy gifts

Forget the blenders and towels, ask your guests for gifts like noise-canceling headphones, video recorders, and artwork speakers. Check out this list of tech gifts for the bride and groom.
So if you plan on getting married and consider yourself a tech geek, consider these options to spruce up your wedding.
