For Redditor NY1227, this will be a very special holiday season indeed: as part of the Reddit Secret Santa gift exchange, NY1227’s Secret Santa donated a cow to the charity Heifer International, where it will go to benefit a family in need. Oh, and the cow just happened to be sent by technological virtuoso and gazillionare Bill Gates.

She got a cow from Bill Gates . Because that’s a thing that can happen, apparently. The holidays truly are a magical time.
Participants in the Reddit Secret Santa create wish lists of items they would like to receive and are then paired anonymously with other users. As around 44,00 people participated in the gift exchanged last year, NY1227 had no way of knowing at first that Bill Gates was the one who had fulfilled her wish to donate to Heifer International (and really, like it would be your first guess), until a note and photo from him in her gift package led to the amazing realization. As part of the gift, Gates also included an adorable stuffed cow toy and a National Geographic travel book.

NY1127 thanked Mr. Gates for his generous gift, and laughingly issued an apology for one item she had listed:
“Sorry for the apple iPad on my wish list,” she wrote. “That was really awkward.”
Mr. Gates also made a cash donation to Heifer International for an unnamed amount of money alongside of the cow, which cost him $500.
