Sleep like an Italian painting master (it’s a good thing, promise)

NeuroOn helps you get better rested with less sleep

If you are like me—meaning, an insomniac with a terribly unhealthy caffeine addiction growing by the hour—then you’re always searching for ways to get a better night’s sleep. With all of the stress we all deal with from our jobs to our home lives to our relatives around the holidays (God help us all), a good night’s sleep where we walk up at our most alert and well-rested would be…well, a Christmas miracle. Thankfully, San Francisco–based start-up IntelClinic has started working on the NeuroOn, a device guaranteed to let you “sleep like Da Vinci.”

Yeah, I was confused too. Evidently, among other big names such as Nikola Tesla, Winston Churchill, and Napoleon, Leonardo Da Vinci was a famous polyphasic sleeper (in between cultivating mild renown by painting the Mona Lisa, being a pioneer of the arts and sciences, angering the Italian nobility, and other cool stuff). While monophasic sleep is your normal sleep cycle — work, work, work, crash for 8 hours, and repeat — polyphasic sleep breaks up your sleep schedule into smaller parts throughout the day, allowing you to feel as refreshed as a whole night of 8 hours’ sleep while actually reducing the time spent sleeping.

NeuroOn Mask

 NeuroOn Mask helps you sleep!

Essentially, the NeuroOn is the world’s first neural sensor/sleep mask. It monitors biological signals including your brainwaves, muscle tension, and eye movements. This allows its user to switch from monophasic to polyphasic sleep, so rather than crashing every night and waking up feeling like a zombie, you get a succession of fine-tuned power naps scientifically proven to help you get a better night’s sleep, and you don’t even spend as much time asleep, as polyphasic sleep can reduce that time to just 2–6 hours. You’ll be able to perform at optimum energy levels during the day without taping your coffee cup to your hand (must be a nice feeling).

I need it Tony Stark Gif

You could probably build one with a pen and a spare bit of twine, though, Tony, so MINE

The NeuroOn will also monitor your sleep, letting you sync your own internal clock to whatever time is convenient for your demanding schedule. The data is translated from analog readings to digital analysis, all sent via Bluetooth low energy to the mask’s accompanying mobile app for both Android and iOS.

Using this data, the device will wake you up after you’ve completed your last phase of REM sleep, when you’ll be fully rested and ready to tackle the day. Furthermore, the NeuroOn can pretty much eliminate jet lag, as you can use it to manage your sleep whenever you like.
