You probably can’t recall the last time you played a vintage video game. Perhaps your old console has been broken for years now, or maybe you haven’t found a modern day method to fit these old games into your new gaming habits. Internet Archive has now provided a platform for gamers to get their retro gaming fix.
The Console Living Room was recently opened by Internet Archive, featuring a number of classic console games that were popular in the 70s and 80s. People will be able to reminisce and revel in nostalgia by playing these games, acknowledging the progression of how video games have changed throughout the years.

In the past, gamers have created ROMs – read-only-memory — images of the games that were only playable on a PC using an emulator. This form of gaming has been deemed illegal, and gaming giants like Nintendo and Sega have cracked down on these counterfeiting gamers. Hence Internet Archive’s solution is a great and legal choice that will not result in fines for gamers.
Games from the following five systems are featured on the site: Astrocade, Maganavox Odyssey, ColecoVision, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, and ProSystem. A plethora of games are ready for you to play, including Pacman, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, Frogger, and Asteroids.
You can open the games in your browser since they are emulated with an od JSMESS emulator system that does not require additional plugins for your computer. Currently, there is no sound provided when playing these games, but the company hopes to provide the original background music very soon.
