Other research conducted by the firm shows that China has dominated the PC market since 2012, leaving the United States in second place. PC shipments to China hit 69 million units while 66 million were shipped to the United States. In most parts of the world, desktop computer sales lag behind those of laptops, but according to IHS, the demand in China was evenly split between the categories due to the demand in the country's rural areas. The balance is predicted to shift to reflect the global 36% to 64% ratio as laptops gain popularity in China.
