Ever since Apple held those closed-door talks with Tesla, we’ve been expecting big news—what kind of big news, we weren’t exactly sure. But according to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle , one product of those talks might be new sensor technology that can predict heart attacks, technology that would definitely have a profound impact on health and medicine.

According to the Chronicle , the project is being led by audio expert Tomlinson Holman, who you might remember from his inventions THX and 10.2 surround sound. According to Mashable, the project will focus on the sound blood makes as it travels through your arteries.

Since the device will have to continuously monitor that sound, some version of wearable tech is the best guess for what form this technology will take. As we’ve also heard repeated and varied rumors of Apple’s up and coming iWatch, some are saying that this heart-attack-preventing technology will be available in said product. This seems to mesh with a report we heard back in January that the company was working on new health-focused apps for iOS.
Apple has been busy—reportedly, at least. But where does Tesla come in? And how will Homan’s device actually work? So far, it seems that we have lots of rumors and no concrete answers. As there are just tons of these rumors, however, I’d be very surprised if Apple wasn’t working on some form of medically helpful technology. Whether it will actually be a part of the iWatch, or creepily monitor the sound of your blood in a manner previously left to deranged vampires, well, we’ll see.
