Proto Labs set to launch liquid silicone rubber injection molding at BIOMEDevice Boston

MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. – March 19, 2014 – At BIOMEDevice Boston at the Boston Convention & Expo Center, March 26-27, 2014, Proto Labs will announce that their liquid silicone rubber injection molding process is now available through their Protomold Injection Molding Service. Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) is a thermoset engineering material that is particularly suitable for applications in the medical sector – it can withstand sterilization and is biocompatible so it works well for products that have skin contact.

“Over the past year, our research and development program has quickly advanced a new process of molding liquid silicone rubber, and I'm excited to begin my tenure at Proto Labs with the launch of LSR molding to our customers. Incorporating LSR into our existing list of materials allows current and future customers more diversity in prototyping – something every product developer can appreciate,” said Vicki Holt, President and CEO, Proto Labs.

With this offering, Proto Labs brings a practical and cost-effective way to get real LSR parts really fast. Users simply upload a 3D CAD model via a secure website and receive an interactive quote within one business day, accompanied by a geometrical analysis of the part and full manufacturability analysis. Quantities from just 25 to 5,000+ parts can be shipped in less than three weeks, and depending on complexity, as fast as 5 business days.

Visitors to Proto Labs' trade show booth will have the opportunity to learn more about this new process offering, see samples of LSR parts, and discuss ideas and project requirements with members of the team.

Proto Labs will be at booth #654.
