QFN socket works to 40 GHz without soldering

Using a new high-performance elastomer, the SM-QFN-9019 QFN socket is designed for 13 x 19-mm mixed-pitch QFN packages and operates at bandwidths to 40 GHz with less than 1dB of insertion loss. The socket is mounted on the target PCB with no soldering, but performs just like a soldered-on socket, and is said to have the industry's smallest footprint.

Designed with a compression screw, the socket can be customized to handle up to 100 W with modified fin design on top of the screw and adding an axial flow fan. Operating temperature range is −55°C to 150°C.The $1,305 socket can connect all pins with 40-GHz signals and is constructed with a swivel-actuated lid that enables quick insertion, so ICs can be changed quickly. Contact resistance is typically 15 mΩ/pin; pin self-inductance is 0.10 nH, mutual inductance is 0.007 nH, capacitance to ground is 0.069 pF, and current capacity is 4 A/pin.
