New biometric gun lock lets only you access your guns

New device complete with fingerprint scanner adds additional safety for gun owners

Whatever your stance on gun control, I’m sure we can all agree that “safety first” is a good policy to follow. That’s the principle behind “Identilock,” a new biometric lock for your guns that only responds to your fingerprint.

Identilock

The FBI compliant device was invented by engineer Omer Kiyani, who was shot in the face at age 16. Identilock attaches to the trigger mechanism, and only detaches when given an authorized fingerprint. Kiyani’s invention does accept multiple fingerprints, meaning all of the adults in the house could have access to it if they needed to, and the gun can still be blocked from children.

The lock, which is rechargeable, also glows in the dark so you can locate it easily in the case of an emergency or a  break-in, a much simpler method than a locked gun cabinet. The video below shows just how easy Identilock is to use:

Identilock is made to disengage quickly for use, once it receives its authorized fingerprint. Kiyani’s device definitely minimizes the risk of an accidental shooting, or the risk of somebody uses your gun as a weapon for themselves.

You can find more information about Kiyani’s invention on Wired.
