One of about sixty company demos at the O'Reilly Solid Conference at Fort Mason in San Francisco is from carvoyant (www.carvoyant.com). The company offers a set of API software for the connected car. It’s used for gathering data from a cars OBD II data port (any car after 1996) and wirelessly monitoring that data.
Carvoyant’s API monitors the cars location, speed, battery voltage, engine speed, engine temperature, miles driven, and the mysterious check engine light. Now you can pull up all that data from any computer – with complete security of course.

I’m sure you can think of keeping an eye on your kid, or checking a family members progress while they are on a long road trip. There are also a lot of possible commercial applications for fleet owners and even car sales companies that want to provide special services to their best customers. Two companies now use the app in their product, Calamp (business critical data delivered) and Xirgo Technologies (fleet management solutions).
