Through no fault of his own, Reddit user Seventy_Seven is the proud new owner of a very expensive military drone. Because through what is no doubt an incredibly complicated mistake, UPS delivered a $400,000 unmanned aerial vehicle to him , instead of the federal government guy it was probably going to.
Also, even though they’ve been informed of their mistake, UPS is still perfectly willing to let Seventy_Seven keep it. Because their new business motto is apparently “YOLO.”
Apparently this drone has been in storage for quite some time before it ended up at Seventy_Seven’s door through mysterious wizardry. Luckily for everyone involved, the Reddit user did not receive the full drone, because it’s propellers can do a serious amount of damage, and even more fortunately, he’s apparently much smarter than UPS.
Seventy_Seven, at least, understands the dire consequences of having a ridiculously expensive piece of military equipment that can kill things in a place it is definitely not supposed to be (like his house), because he did not even hesitate before alerting the government.
Upon receiving the drone, Seventy_Seven immediately—well, immediately after posting the story on Reddit, which is kind of only fair—called it’s rightful owners, the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center, who have presumably already picked it up.
I assume they’ve also already placed UPS on some kind of watch list.
